    History

                N.M.S.S.Vellaichamy Nadar College Library was started in august 1965. Initially it was housed in the office and in 1973 new building was constructed and declared open by the Honorable Minister S.Mohan Kumara Mangalam, the central Minister for steel and mines under the Presidenship of shri. P.R.Muthusamy Nadar the President of college managing Board.
                The library has been provided with sufficient reading area. Books are kept in spacious and nice looking racks. Reference and competitive exam books are kept in specially designed book shelves for students’ convenience. Now, the library has more than 65,000 books. The value of the books is around one crore.
                The reading materials provided in the library are Encyclopedia Britannica, Master plots, Dictionaries, Year books, important books and periodicals.
                Every year books on various disciplines are purchased and added to the library. Open Access system is followed .So users can easily approach the books and borrow them.
                Bar coding is used for borrowing library books. Department libraries are also attached in various departments.

    Rules and Regulations

    The college library is kept open from 6.00 am to 10.00 pm on all working days. Sunday is holiday. It remains open on vacation too.
  • Every effort must be made to minimize noise and disturbance in, and immediately outside the library.
  • Personal belongings should be left at the property counter of the library.
  • Mobile phones may not be used inside the library.
  • Library computers must be strictly used for academic purpose only.
  • Tokens are not transferable. Sub –lending of books is strictly forbidden.
  • Students must bring their ID card and library token at the time of borrowing books.
  • No books will be used without library token.
  • Members of teaching faculty can borrow up to 15 books and members of non teaching staff may borrow not more than 5 books at a time.
  • Books are usually lent for a period of 15 days. Books may be further renewed if it is not reserved by any other student.
  • Library users should not damage, write or make any mark on books or and any belongings of the library.
  • Reference books will not be lent.
  • Loss of library tokens must be informed to the librarian, who will issue duplicate token on the payment of Rs20 per token.
  • If a book is lost, the borrower must supply a new copy of the book to the library or three times of the cost of the book.
  • Staff and students should return all books borrowed from the library one week before the last working day of the academic year.
  • All users should renew their library tokens at the beginning of the academic year.
  • At the time of borrowing, the users should examine the book and report it to the librarian about any damage found therein. Otherwise the borrower is responsible for the damage.
  • Theft, vandalism and destruction of library books. Journals and related materials are considered serious offences and those who cause such offences will be dealt seriously.

SERVICES

a) OPAC : (Online Public Access Catalogue) Used to find the availability as well as location of a document.
b) Pamphlet: Covers important information about the library.
c) Reservation : Reservation slip will be given to reserve a document.
d) Reprographic facility : Photo copying service in available.
e) Binding : Slightly damaged books which can be used further are given to binding as a part of preserving our valuable books.
f) Previous years question papers are kept for reference.
g) Book bank facility is available for economically backward students.
h) Barcoding : Barcoding is used for charging and discharging books.

MOTIVATIONAL SERVICES

  • Initiation to freshman –Orientation programme is given to first year students to initiate them to make use of library effectively.
  • Posters of current events and news papers clipping are displayed in the notice board.
  • Various competitions are being conducted to promote reading habits.
  • Library week is being celebrated every year to create awareness about library usage.
  • Study circle is being conducted at a regular periodicity. Hot topics will be given for discussion to the participants.
  • Thought for the day.
  • Top users award will be given to top 20 users.
  • Feed back is welcomed from users.
  • Best speaker award will be given to the best speaker of study circle.
